Importance of baby teeth

Baby teeth typically begin to erupt around 6 months to 1 year of age, but can begin as early as 3-4 months. Typically all 20 primary teeth are fully erupted by age 3.

Eventually baby teeth exfoliate and are replaced by permanent teeth; however, primary teeth are extremely important. Their duties include:

  • helping children chew their food

  • aid with talking and speaking clearly

  • helps hold space in the jaw for permanent teeth

  • sets the stage for a lifetime of healthy, happy smiles!
